ThePorsche 908/2 Flunder: A Brief History
The Porsche 908/2, first introduced in 1969, was a development of the original 908 coupe. The "Flunder" (German for "flounder") version featured a wider, flatter, and more aerodynamic body, designed to maximize downforce and reduce drag on high-speed tracks. Powered by a potent 3.0-liter, air-cooled, flat-eight engine, the 908/2 Flunder was a lightweight and agile machine that could challenge even the more powerful 5-liter prototypes. Its success in the World Sportscar Championship cemented its place in Porsche's illustrious racing history.
Car #28 Le Mans 1971
This version represents the Porsche 908/2 Flunder, car number 28, entered by Sonauto and driven by Claude Ballot-Lena and Guy Chasseuil at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unfortunately, the car did not finish (DNF) the grueling endurance race. Despite the retirement, their participation with the distinctive BP-sponsored Flunder at Le Mans is a notable part of the car's history.
