Marsh Models MM323B2 Ford GT MkII #2 Shelby American 'Chris Amon - Bruce McLaren' 1st pl Le Mans 1966, 1/43rd scale resin hand built.
The Ford GT MkII #2 Shelby American driven by Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren won the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was the first time that a Ford car had won the race, and it marked the end of Ferrari's dominance of the event.
The GT MkII was a development of the GT40, which had finished second to Ferrari in the previous two years. It was powered by a 7-liter V8 engine that produced over 400 horsepower. The car was also lighter and more aerodynamic than the GT40, giving it a significant advantage over its rivals.
As they rounded the final turn, a puzzling thing happened... Miles was ahead of McLaren but actually braked to let McLaren cross the finish line first for a Ford requested photo finish. Some team members thought Miles was a lap ahead and therefore still the victor. Race officials thought differently. A photo opportunity cost Miles and Hulme victory at the world's greatest endurance race. Ken Miles and Denny Hulme were robbed of the win by Ford.
The GT MkII #2 Shelby American is now a museum piece, and it is on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
