  • The Ford GT40 Mk2 was an upgraded version of the original GT40, featuring a larger 7-liter engine compared to the 4.7-liter engine of the Mk1. 1
  • The Mk2 was developed by Ford's US subsidiary Kar Kraft, led by chief designer Roy Lunn. 1
  • In 1966, the Mk2 won the "triple crown" of endurance racing - the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and 24 Hours of Le Mans. 1
  • For the 1967 season, Ford brought out the new Mk4 model, but also continued to race upgraded Mk2 cars, including the #2 car driven by Foyt and Ruby at Sebring. 14
  • At Sebring in 1967, the Foyt/Ruby Mk2 set the third fastest qualifying time, behind the pole-sitting Mk4 of McLaren/Andretti and the Chaparral 2F. 1
  • The Mk2 led early on, but eventually surrendered the lead to the faster Mk4, which went on to win the race. The Foyt/Ruby Mk2 finished 2nd. 1
