Slot.It SICA26a McLaren M8D #48 'Dan Gurney' winner Can-Am Mosport 1970, 1/32nd scale slot car.

The MBD was a prototype race car, built In 1970 by McLaren Cars to compete in  the Can-Am Challenge Cup.

 In comparison to the former M8, the M8D was wider and with a lower rear wing, which was also braced to the chassis, as the high mounted suspension attached wings had been banned.

 The chassis was an aluminium sheet monocoque with steel bulkheads and stressed engine. Bodywork was fiberglass.

 The engine was a Chevrolet with Lucas fuel injection prepared by George Bathholl. It was a 7.6 liter V8 yielding 680 horsepower or maximum. The transmission was the 4 speed Hewland LG500.

 The wheels had a 15 inch diameter, a width of 11 inches in the front and 16 inches at the rear.

Mosport, in Canada was the first race of the 1970 season. Dan Gurney was asked to replace Bruce McLaren, who had died while testing the M8D. Dan Gumey. who had never driven the car before, won the race in car number 48, after a very close race with Jackie Oliver driving the Autocoast Ti 22 MkI. Bruce's teammate, Denny Hulme, also driving an M8D, #5 finished in 3rd pl.
